Scranton High School Students participate in National School Walkout to to honor the victims of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida

On February 14, 2018, a gunman claimed the lives of 17 students and faculty at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

As a call to Congress to keep us safe from gun violence, the Scranton Knight community, along with other high schools across the nation, peacefully protested and honored the 17 victims of MSD High School during a National School Walkout on Wednesday, March 14th, one month to the day this senseless act occurred.

Students, faculty, staff and administration came together in the halls of Scranton High School for 17 minutes, to honor the 17 victims who died from gun violence during school in Parkland.

Students paid $1 dollar to wear maroon, the school color of MSD. A donation of $1000 was made to the MSDStrong Foundation.

We at Scranton High School are honored to have had a day where we were able to “Stand with Parkland,” and we hope that this movement will help aid us in keeping our schools safe.

French Club went to Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC

On April 16th members of the Scranton High School French Club visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. The visit helped to increase students’ interests in the study of both the French language and culture by viewing manuscripts and paintings from the Renaissance and Impressionist, and other periods.
In addition, students were able to observe an on-loan exhibit of Daguerreotype photography, an unparalleled feat in the history of photography developed by Joseph-Philibert Girault de Prangey (1804-1892).
A surprise exhibit on display students also took advantage of was the “Rock It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll” showcasing the instruments of Rock & Roll legends including Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Hendrix, Joan Jett, and others.
