On April 24th Upper-Level French students from both SHS and WSHS participated in the first ever organized “French Immersion Day” between the Scranton School District and the University of Scranton.
Our students attended and participated in a university-level French class as well as participate in a French-learning contest using the University’s World Language Lab. French Club went to Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC

On April 16th members of the Scranton High School French Club visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. The visit helped to increase students’ interests in the study of both the French language and culture by viewing manuscripts and paintings from the Renaissance and Impressionist, and other periods.
In addition, students were able to observe an on-loan exhibit of Daguerreotype photography, an unparalleled feat in the history of photography developed by Joseph-Philibert Girault de Prangey (1804-1892).
A surprise exhibit on display students also took advantage of was the “Rock It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll” showcasing the instruments of Rock & Roll legends including Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Hendrix, Joan Jett, and others.

Spanish Immersion Day

Last week, the World Languages and Cultures department from the University of Scranton had the opportunity to host 23 of our students along with three Spanish instructors for our annual Spanish Immersion Day organized by Elena Galkina. These students had the chance to go on a campus tour, complete Spanish activities in our Language Learning Center, eat lunch in the cafeteria, and attend a Spanish class. They readily engaged with the college students in the class they attended, asked great questions to our tour guides, and had excellent attitudes throughout the entire day.

Youth across the nation will be celebrating prom and graduation. Every year, an alarming number of teens lose their lives to injuries associated with alcohol, and motor vehicle crashes remain the number one killer of people ages 16 to 20.
During prom and graduation weekends, teen deaths from crashes are higher than any other time of year. These deaths are preventable. Please, Stay Safe. Stay Sober. Stay Alive.
Seniors Claire D., Juanita W. and Aidan D. participated in this year’s Celebration/Prom Graduation and helping us to spread the message. Catch the commercials on @FOX56WOLF and affiliates. Links to our students are below.
